The world’s richest man Jeff Bezos may lose almost half of his wealth after his divorce but would still have enough to fund the entire health budget of Ethiopia and many more countries.

A recent Oxfam study noted that just 1 per cent of Bezos’s wealth is equal to the entire health budget of African nation Ethiopia. The 54-year-old Amazon founder has seen a meteoric rise in wealth after a major slump in December last year.

As of now, Jeff Bezos has a total net worth of $140 billion or Rs 9,99,180 crore, according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

The tech giant’s total net worth is not only $45 billion or Rs 3,20,760 crore more than the second richest man on earth, Bill Gates, but also more than the GDP of 49 poorest counties in the world combined. His valuation is also more than the GDP of 131 standalone countries.

If Bezos were a country, he would rank approximately 57 out of 188 nations in terms of total net worth. He has amassed more wealth than a few countries including Iceland, Tunisia, Jamaica and Estonia.

He net worth is 2.8 per cent of the total wealth of the 500 richest people in the world. Bezos can buy at least 10.9 crore ounces of gold or 2.23 crore barrels of crude oil with his total net worth.

Bezos increased his wealth significantly owing to excellent progress in the e-commerce space. Data from Bloomberg Billionaire Index suggested that he made approximately Rs 1,200 crore on an average in the first half of 2018.
