Africa’s most powerful passports have been revealed in a new report by the Nomad Passport Index (NPI). The top six are all in Southern Africa, two from Eastern Africa, and one from west Africa.

Seychelles and Mauritius were titled the most powerful passports in Africa as they presented the highest Visa-free score.
The Nomad Passport Index offers citizens a more rounded insight into their nationality and therefore ability to move freely.
The index is designed to show the best citizenships in the world to hold on the basis of visa-free travel, international taxation, perception, dual citizenship, and personal freedom.
“Each country’s value in each category is given the indicated weighting to achieve a country’s total score using the formula below
((Visa Free Travel x 0.5) + (Taxation x 0.2)+ (Perception x 0.1) + (Dual Citizenship x 0.1) + (Overall Freedom x 0.1))
After calculating a more rounded score for each country, Seychelles passports was ranked the most powerful passport in Africa.
Seychelles citizens can travel without a visa to 141 countries and can hold both dual and multiple citizenships.
Second on the list of most powerful passport in Africa is Mauritius, their citizens can travel to 134 countries without a visa and can also hold both dual and multiple citizenships.
South Africa secures third place as it is ranked 97th most powerful passport in the world, holders of South Africa’s passports can travel without a visa to 100 countries.
