The 2017 Global Peace Index has placed South sudan as the least peaceful country in Africa followed by somalia.

Also among the countries not doing so well in terms of peace include the Giant of Africa, Nigeria – majorly because of the threat posed by the islamist terrorist group, Biko haram – mali, Egypt and mauritania.

The Cental African Republic although among the top 5, was tagged the county with the largest improvement in not only africa, but the world as the country continues to emerge from a wave of inter-communal violence. They are ranked number 4 in Africa, a significant improvement from last years.

South sudan is currently holding the number one position as the most dangerous country in Africa, folowed by somalia – both areas are currently plagued by political instability.

The Global Peace Index, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace ranks 163 countries covering 99.7% of the world’s population. The index looks at 23 indicators covering the level of safety and security in society, the degree of domestic or international conflict, and the level of militarisation.
