Homicide rates have been increasing across the world over the last few years. This spike has been seen in both the developing and developed countries.

According to worldatlas ranking of Murder Rate By Country, south Africa has the highest murder rate on the continent..

This conclusion was reached after the country was Ranked the 10th country in the world with the highest murder rate in the world, the only African country in the list.

According to the article, About 31 people are murdered everyday per every 100,000 people every year in South Africa.

Based on the number of intentiinal homicides per 100,000 inhabitants per year, these statistics will allow us to see which countries have the highest murder rates.

1. Honduras, 91.6

Honduras tops the list of countries with the highest murder rates in the Wwrld with 91.6 murders per every 100,000 people yearly. Stated differently, this is nearly 1 out of every 1,000 people killed. Consequently, Honduras also has the highest incidence of firearm-related deaths in the world.

2. El Salvador, 69.2

El Salvador is next on the list. Here, the murder rate is 69.2 per 100,000 population annually. Estimates indicate that approximately 60% of these murders are due to gang activity.

3. Jamaica, 52.2

Jamaica takes the 3rd place for high murder rates. Murders here reach 52.2 per 100,000 population. Some of the most dangerous cities in this country are Kingston, Montego Bay, and Spanish Town. Jamaica also has the 5th highest firearm-related death rate in the world.

4. Venezuela, 45.1

The fourth highest murder rate is found in Venezuela. This country loses 45.1 people per 100,000 each year to homicide. Caracas, the capital, is the center for all of this violence.

5. Belize, 41.4

Belize’s Enormous homicide rate of almost 42 murders per 100,000 people makes Belize one of the most dangerous countries in the world. The homicides are particularly frequent in the Belize City district where, in 2007, for example, half of all that year´s murders occurred.

6. Guatemala, 38.5

With a population of almost 16 million, Guatemala is the most populous country in Central America. With an average of about 39 murders committed every day per every 100,000 people.

7. Saint Kitts and Nevis, 38.2

Located in the West Indies, Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest sovereign state in the Americas. With an average rate of 33.2 homicides per 100,000 people, Saint Kitts and Nevis ranked 7th in countries With The Highest Murder Rates In The World.

8. Trinidad and Tobago, 35.2

Trinidad and Tobago also made the list, this Caribbean country has been listed among those with the highest homicide rate in the world. In the recent years, on average, more than 35 people are murdered everyday per every 100,000 people annually.

9. Colombia, 33.4

Situated in the northwest of South America, Colombia is notorious for its drug production and trade. This, combined with the highly segregated society, split between the rich families of Spanish descent and the majority of poor Colombians, has led to many locals getting involved not only in murders but also kidnappings, robberies, aggravated assaults and other crimes.

10. South Africa, 31.1

South Africa, which is home to about 54 million people, is the only African country on the list. Apparently, the country has a very high rate of murders, assaults, rapes and other violent crimes including xenophobic attacks etc. Statistics published by worldatlas suggest that in South Africa, around 32 people are murdered every day, which is really alarming number.
