Does taking the mucus from out of your nose with your finger, putting them in your mouth and swallowing it boost your immune system? The answer apparently is yes.

Picking Your Nose and Eating The Mucus Is Healthy: Study Finds
The study indicates that while toothpaste and mouthwash kill the bacteria, bogies are effective because they are made of mucus, known as salivary mucins, which prevents bacteria from clasping onto your teeth altogether.
Professor Friedrich Bischinger, a lung specialist from Austria, said in an interview that people who have this habit may sometimes be healthier than those who avoid it. And also in better tune with their bodies.

‘Eating the dry remains of what you pull out [of your nose is a great way of strengthening the body’s immune system,’ he said.

“Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do”

‘In terms of the immune system, the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.’ he also said.

The study was conducted by scientists based at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was published in the American Society for Microbiology.

It further adds that mucus could fight respiratory infections, stomach ulcers and even HIV. And here’,s the grossiest part of the story, the scientists are reportedly preparing a synthetic mucus toothpaste to keep you and your entire family healthier.
